Breakfast at Tiffany’s is Samuel Adamson’s hotly anticipated, brand new
adaptation of Truman Capote’s classic 1958 novella. The story of
Holiday ‘Holly’ Golightly’s antics as a Texas born hick turned New York
socialite happily taking money from wealthy old men in return for her
company and conversation. William, the struggling writer in the
apartment upstairs, falls madly in love with his enigmatic neighbour.
While both know that he’s not what she’s looking for, she reveals her
true self to him as her past catches up with her.
Immortalised
on screen in the 1961 movie which starred Audrey Hepburn in one of the
most iconic roles in Hollywood history, this new production marks only
the second time Breakfast at Tiffany’s has taken to the stage. A
musical adaptation of the film famously closed after only four
performances on Broadway in 1966, and it is often said in theatre
circles that if as many people who say they saw that show actually had
seen it, then it would have run forever. The new play at the Theatre
Royal Haymarket takes more from the original story than the film, and
moves the action back to the 1940’s, just as Capote had originally
written it. Fans of the film will not be disappointed though; the
movie’s Oscar winning song Moon River will be included.
Breakfast
at Tiffany’s stars Brookside and Pushing Daisies actress Anna Friel as
Holly Golightly and Milk star Joseph Cross as William.
