Dirty Dancing the musical, based on the classic film released in 1987, is the coming-of-age tale of the young and innocent ‘Baby’ Houseman, her love for dance and affection for hotel dance instructor Johnny Castle. The current Dirty Dancing production is a wonderful re-imagining for stage which adds the exciting element of live performance to the already magnificent story. The stage version of Dirty Dancing is made up of 40% new material including 25 new songs, as well as all the old classics that you’ll remember fondly. So even if you’ve already seen the film, it’s well worth catching Dirty Dancing in the theatre. The shows release was so anticipated that the first 6 months sold out before it even first opened in London. The people of Germany also flocked to see Dirty Dancing at their local theatres, selling out over there and breaking European records. Those that know (and love) Dirty Dancing the film will know what to expect and most nights see the audience getting thoroughly caught up in the show, signing along to the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time including; Time Of My Life, Hungry Eyes, Hey Baby and Do You Love Me? You’ll probably hear a scream when it reaches a climax with ‘No one puts baby in the corner’. Dirty Dancing features a limited amount of mild swearing and themes of a sexual nature – so parental guidance is advised.
"I really didn't think they could make Dirty Dancing any better. After all the movie was a true classic, which I still love now. But the Dirty Dancing production team do an excellent job. The new bits add to the story without detracting from the original splendour.
At the performance I attended the atmosphere was almost electric. People were really enjoying it and cheers went up on a regular basis. I couldn't help but tap my feet along to the soundtrack. Others were almost bouncing in their seats.
The Dirty Dancing cast are magnificent and sure, there's no Patrick Swayze, but it was still a thoroughly good performance and I'd happily recommend it to friends, family and fans! "
