About Blood Brothers

Blood Brothers is a thoroughly successful theatre phenomenon which originally started life on the stage in 1983 and is still going strong to this day. Loosely based on a short novel entitled ‘The Corsican Brothers’ originally published in 1844, Blood Brothers is the quintessential story of nature versus nurture. Two brothers, separated at birth, thrown into completely opposite polar ends of the social spectrum fall for the same girl – leading to tragedy and heartbreak.

Reunited through friendship, the two brothers never know the true nature of their relationship as it is kept from them for superstitious reasons. But fate has it that they will be entangled in a vicious love triangle. With one brother an Oxford scholar and the other forced into a life of crime due to unemployment, life could not be more different for these Blood Brothers. And when one is imprisoned for his crimes, will the other get the girl?

First opening at the Lyric Theatre in the early 80’s, Blood Brother the musical, was originally written by Willy Russell and opened to critical acclaim – winning Laurence Olivier Awards for Best New Musical and Best Actress. It ran on and off for a few years, before moving to the Phoenix Theatre in 1991 where it has been running ever since.

This poignant musical, often regarded as one of the classic all-time greats, is critically praised for dealing with two of the biggest social issues of modern times – unemployment and inequality. This is a subject that Blood Brothers handles marvellously and has done for many years. Still as relevant today as it was when it first took to the stage in 1983.

Because of the length of performance, the cast has changed a number of times, with previous cast members including ex-Spice Girl Melanie C, ex-Atomic Kitten Natasha Hamilton and Lyn Paul. The current cast list can be seen on the official website -

At just under 3 hours long, Blood Brothers is a musical treat which is well worth every penny. Save up to 50% on your Blood Brothers tickets by buying online with our comparison tool.
