Crazy For You is a Broadway musical production which originally started in the United States in 1992, before moving to the West End a year later. In 2011, Crazy For You had a West End revival at Regents Park before moving to the Novello Theatre. The original stage production of Crazy For You was based on the musical Girl Crazy which was played out in theatres in the 1930s.
Crazy For You is a musical comedy which has been said to be a classic blend of music, laughter and dancing. A revolution of American theatre which has made its way to British shores. The British production of course, underplays this and instead both spoofs and celebrates the classic Broadway musical with a strong score which doesn't disappoint.
Crazy For You has won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Costume Design and Best Choreography, as well as numerous other awards including the Laurence Olivier award for Best New Musical.
The story, as with every good musical, is one of love and longing, as Bobby the banker, seeks the affections of Polly and desperately tries to keep her Gaiety Theatre from being foreclosed by putting on a show good enough to pay off the mortgage. But Polly isn't happy with Bobby, who she sees as the cause of her trouble. So things don't go smoothly.
The score to Crazy For You includes a number of memorable tunes including I Can't Be Bothered Now, Shall We Dance, Bidin' My Time, I Got Rhythm, Naughty Baby and Someone to Watch Over Me. And has been given more five star reviews than any other musical in the West End. With musical direction by Gareth Valentine, Crazy For You is a thoroughly enjoyable musical treat for everyone.
