About Motown

When the music company Motown was founded in America in 1959 it changed music and culture as we knew it forever, playing a pivotal role in the racial integration of popular music. Motown the Musical traces the real story of the unique sounds produced by Motown and the role it playing in transforming American culture.

The pulsating show is centred on Motown’s founder, Berry Gordy’s, rollercoaster journey from being a featherweight boxer to one of music’s leading and most distinguished figures. Gordy helped launch the careers of many of the biggest names in soul/pop music, including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and many more.
