Exciting news! Casting has been announced for George Orwell’s 1984. The show is adapted by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan and will return to the Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End opening in just a few weeks on 12th June.
A fantastic cast consisting of Matthew Spencer, Janine Harouni, Hara Yannas, Simon Coates, Tim Dutton, Stephen Fewell, Christopher Patrick Nolan, Ben Porter, Gavin Spokes and Mandi Symonds.
The story, written in 1949, predicts a grim future in which protagonist Winston Smith and his fellow citizens of Airstrip One are forced to tow the party line or risk extermination.
Orwell’s ideas have become our ideas; his fiction is often said to be our reality. The “definitive book of the 20th century” (The Guardian) is re-examined in a radical new staging exploring surveillance, identity and Orwell’s vision of the future is as relevant now as ever.
