It’s 1947 and – not unlike today – a Royal Wedding is being planned. But, in austerity Britain, Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip’s auspicious wedding celebrations are causing concern in a small Yorkshire village.
The play centres on Betty, a pig that is being illegally reared to ensure that the local dignitaries can celebrate the forthcoming Royal Wedding with a lavish banquet, while everyone else makes do with Spam.
When the feast’s main ingredient escapes ’trouble at t’mill’ turns up in the form of a diligent Food Inspector.
Will they be rationing rasher portions?
Directed by Richard Eyre, and supported by a stellar cast including Sarah Lancashire and Reece Shearsmith, audiences will enjoy a bellyful of laughs.
They certainly won’t be rationing Betty Blue Eyes’ entertainment value…Great fun.
