First seen at the Royal & Derngate, Northhampton earlier this year, End Of The Rainbow opened this November at the Trafalgar studios, London.
Written by Peter Quilter (best known for Glorious! And Duets) and directed by Terry Johnson (famous for One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Entertaining Mr Sloane and The Graduate) End Of The Rainbow is based around the later life of Judy Garland.
Set in December 1968 in a London Hotel Judy Garland is about to make her comeback... again. With her young new fiancé at her side, Judy is seen smiling through her doubting tears, vodka haze, and harsh personal criticisms as she undertakes an exhausting series of concerts at the Talk of the Town to try and reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation.
The play features a breath-taking performance by Tracie Bennett as Judy (known for her role in Sex, Chips and Rock 'n' Roll, Chicago and Blood Brothers) who has just been nominated for best actress for the whatsonstage.com awards for the role.
Receiving nightly standing ovations, several of Garland's classic songs, including The Man That Got Away, Come Rain or Come Shine, The Trolley Song and Somewhere Over the Rainbow are featured, supported onstage by a six piece band.
End of the Rainbow promises to be a night of unforgettable, Hollywood musical nostalgia and pathos.
