It’s a fine life for Jodie Prenger as she tells us how much she is loving life as a West End star. The people’s Nancy is still the same Blackpool lass at heart, still suffering from nerves before every performance. However, her spirits are lifted by the boys in Fagin’s gang in her first number so the nerves don’t last. Noted for being great with the young Olivers on the BBC’s I’d Do Anything, she says she ‘falls in love with each of them’ and the fun they have on stage overshadows any apprehension.
Not only is the having a good time, but she’s staying in great shape. When asked how she copes physically with six energetic and emotionally charged performances each week, Jodie said that the actual performances themselves are doing wonders for her fitness, joking, “They should bring out an Oliver! fitness DVD, it’s that good.”
Very much considering herself one of the family, Jodie had nothing but high praise for her colleagues who work so hard to make Oliver! the success it has become. While mentioning that her co-star Rowan Atkinson is a “total pleasure pleasure to work with” and “such a talented man”, she refers to all her colleagues at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane as a “fantastic family to be a part of… I always say, when people come to see a show they don’t just see a show, they are watching a West End family at work.”
