Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Wizard of Oz musical is an instant hit!
Officially, Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical, The Wizard of Oz doesn’t open until the 1st March but advance ticket sales (resulting from the shows preview night on Monday 7th Feb) have already exceeded £10 million, making these the hottest tickets in town.
It's almost a year since Lord Webber launched his BBC TV series searching to find a new Dorothy to star in the West End musical. Danielle Hope won the show and did not let the audience down on the show's special preview night.
Danielle's Dorothy was a faultless performance. 'Over the Rainbow' was magical and earned her rapturous applause from a sell-out audience. Danielle delivered at every level and a standing ovation endorsed the audience's appreciation.
Michael Crawford's welcome return to the West End stage is a wizard performance he is a true legend who never disappoints with his remarkable character interpretations.
Choreographed by Arlene Philips, the former Strictly judge, the show delivers dazzling dance routines and the special effects are stunning. The winged monkeys are terrifying and the collapse of Dorothy's home in a tornado is bordering on cinematic as the house spins into space.
Judging by the preview performance and subsequent ticket sales, Lord Webber is sure to be proud of another blockbuster musical.
The musical will reside at The London Palladium that has undergone a major £4 million refurbishment to make it a fitting venue for such a dazzling show.
