Creepiness on Broadway – The Addams Family Musical
Expect creepiness, mayhem and a dose of dark comedy as The Addams Family opens on Broadway this month. Starring Nathan Lane (The Producers) and Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago), the new musical will have West End Producers looking on with considerable interest.
Created by American cartoonist Charles Addams, the Addams Family are a wealthy, eccentric bunch, which take delight in the darker side of life. Originally a series of magazine cartoons, the family has grown to appear on television, film, and now finally the stage.
A Brand New Story
Jersey Boys creators Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman have written a brand new Addams Family story. Daughter Wednesday is growing up, creating anxiety for morbid mother Morticia and long-suffering brother Pugsley. When the parents of Wednesday’s new boyfriend are invited for dinner, the clan pull out all the stops to extend the famous Addams’ hospitality.
Will it come to London?
The big question on the lips of UK fans will surely be answered by the end of the year. Many successful Broadway productions have crossed the pond in recent times, from Avenue Q to Chicago and Wicked, not to mention the new West End revival of Hair. As always, time and the critics’ pen will tell.
