Thriller Live, a live concert tribute to the works of Michael Jackson takes on the West End’s Lyric Theatre on 2 January 2009 after two successful UK tours.
The Thriller Live concept came from Adrian Grant, the founder of the Michael Jackson fanclub, author of three biographies and personal friend of the eccentric singer and is produced by Flying Music, who have had such jukebox hits as the Motown musical Dancing in the Streets, a series of tributes to the Rat Pack and Abba: the Show, a tribute which sold out the Royal Albert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. After two sensationally successful tours, Thriller Live has been hailed as a ‘must-see’ by the Liverpool Daily Post and ‘spectacular’ by the Scotsman. Legendary production company Nederlander are currently said to be developing their own version for staging on Broadway later in 2009.
Not just a sing-through of the titular album, which became the biggest selling album of all time only a year after its 1982 release, Thriller Live is a retrospective of Jacko’s entire recording career. Arguably more famous now for his turbulent and controversial private life than for his music, the show includes such countless timeless classics as I Want You Back, I'll Be There, Show You The Way To Go, Can You Feel It, Rock With You, She's Out Of My Life, Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean and Earth Song, reminding us what made MJ such a star in the first place.
Open auditions will be held at the Lyric theatre on Sunday 23 November to find an 11-15 year old to play MJ in his Jackson 5 days.
