About Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages started life as a Broadway rock jukebox musical in 2006 and was dubbed as ‘insanely fun’ by Time Out magazine for its fantastic mix of classic 80’s rock tracks and a story that harks back to the time of over-the-top haircuts, oversized egos, big bands and big music.

Set in the late 1980’s, Rock of Ages tells the story of a country girl who arrives in the big city and takes up work as a waitress in an LA rock club. Working alongside Drew Boley, as aspiring rocker and busboy - a relationship soon develops and we have the love interest which is essential in every feel good musical. The future of the club is threatened when the Mayor is convinced to change the Sunset Strip (where the club is based) into a clean living area and move away from the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle which the area encourages. Aspiring rocker, love interest and our hero Drew sets about saving the club with the help of Sherrie by trying to get Stacee Jazz and his band ‘Arsenal’ to play at the club for their last gig. Trouble comes when Drew suggests he and Sherrie are just friends and she falls for Stacee Jazz instead. Meanwhile, Drew is noticed by a big-time record producer and his future looks set…

Rock of Ages is a light-hearted musical extravaganza which breaks the traditional theatre conventions with the performers addressing the audience throughout the performance.

The current West End line-up includes Justin Lee Collins, Shayne Ward, Amy Pemberton and Simon Lipkin. Featuring this fantastic cast, production from the original Broadway team and a score that includes songs by Bon Jovi, Twist Sisted, Asia, Journey and Styx, Rock of Ages is a sure-fire hit and fantastic Rock-out theatre.

Rock of Ages has been nominated for no less than 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Sound Design and more. Rock of Ages also notably broke the Guinness World Record for the Largest Air Guitar Ensemble in 2009 with over 800 people simultaneous playing air guitar – this is just another example of the fun had by the Rock of Ages team and the thrills and enjoyment on offer to theatre-goers.

Parental Advisory – some of the costumes, dancing and language featured in Rock of Ages may not be suitable for younger children, especially those under 13 years of age. Parental discretion is advised.

Please noe that from 18 Jan 2013 the show will be at the Garrick Theatre
