The Ladykillers is a stage production of the original black comedy that hit the big screen back in 1955. The original film is said to have been based on a dream by the author and is a quintessentially British romp.
Peter Capaldi headlines as the gang leader – Professor Marcus, who masquerades as the head of an amateur string quintet. Louisa Wilberforce (played by Marcia Warren) is duped into renting a room to the gang who pretend to practice their music while actually planning and executing a robbery. But when the elderly landlady discovers the true nature of their plans, the gang fears she might go to the police. But how will they stop her?
Re-imagined for stage, the current adaptation of The Ladykillers is penned by Graham Linehan (who previously wrote for Father Ted and The IT Crowd) and is backed by a cast who are instantly recognisable from British television. Said to be ‘more of a farce’ than the original film, The Ladykillers play is a marvellous theatrical outing which will be thoroughly pleasing to anyone who enjoyed the original or just a good time out at the theatre.
Alongside BAFTA winner Peter Capaldi are James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley), Ben Miller (The Armstrong and Miller Show), Stephen Wight (Evening Standard Outstanding Newcomer) and Clive Rowe. A famous cast, strong strict and a fantastic time had by all.
