About We Will Rock You

London 2002. The new musical based on the original music by Queen and a story penned by Ben Elton and co-produced by Robert Deniro hit the West End to public praise and standing ovations.

Although coined as a 'jukebox musical' using Queen's songs, We Will Rock You is not a biographical piece about Queen, but a story set 300 years in the future where manufactured music is the norm and musical instruments are banned. In a fictional world where originality and individualism are shunned, it's a story about the rediscovery of Rock 'n' Roll. A funny, uplifting story with something to say about music and human nature. The lead parts are suitably and significantly named and the current line-up includes Kevin Kennedy (Pop), Alasdair Harvey (Khashoggi), Alex Gaumond (Galileo), Lauren Samuels (Scaramouche), Brenda Edwards (Killer Queen), Wayne Robinson (Brit) and Rachel John (Meat).

It was originally planned that We Will Rock You would be a biographical story about Queen. But Ben Elton had other plans – to create an original story that would capture the spirit of Queen's music and passion.

Brian May and Roger Taylor, the founding members of Queen, support We Will Rock You as musical supervisors, so you can be sure, that although We Will Rock You is not about Queen, it certainly has the spirit of Queen running throughout it.

When it originally premiered, We Will Rock You received harsh criticism from the press and was subjected to several scathing reviews. However, the audiences lapped it up and it received nightly standing ovations. We Will Rock You proved such a hit that it has since opened in a number of other Countries across the world.

Still playing at the Dominion Theatre, We Will Rock You, is now the longest running show ever to run at that theatre.

With We Will Rock You being based on Queen's music, you can expect to hear many of the original Queen hits including 'I Want to Break Free', 'Under Pressure', 'Flash', 'Fat Bottom Girls', 'Another One Bites the Dust' and, of course, 'We Will Rock You'.

There have been rumours of We Will Rock You making a move to the big screen with a 'grittier' script being written by Ben Elton, but for now We Will Rock You continues to please crowds on a regular basis.

Since it started, We Will Rock You has won a number of high profile awards including 'Best New Musical', 'Best Female Actor in a Musical', 'Best Music Direction' and more. As well as a Oliver Award for 'Most popular long-running show'. Considering We Will Rock You has almost been running successfully for a decade, it's no surprise.
